Botox Q & A

Ageless Anatomy

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified toxin that can temporarily reduce activity in muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines. The prescription medication is applied via injection to sites that need treatment. This muscle-reducing action is also beneficial to conditions that may be induced by excessive muscle or nerve action, such as hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, or migraines.

How does Botox reduce the appearance of wrinkles?

An expressive face is welcoming, but over time, your expressions can lead to lines and wrinkles etched into your face due to repeated muscular contractions from smiling, frowning, and looking inquisitive. When injected into carefully selected sites, the muscle action in these areas can be reduced, so wrinkles become less obvious. Typical sites used for the aesthetic application of Botox include:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Frown lines between your brows
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

Injections are precisely placed so you achieve natural results and don’t look frozen or permanently surprised as a result of your treatment.

Do Botox injections hurt?

Botox injections do involve a needle, so you feel a prick at application. The needles are fine, however, and treatment is quick. If you’re concerned about discomfort, talk to the doctors at Ageless Academy about applying a topical numbing agent prior to treatment.

How long do the effects of Botox last?

The wrinkle-reducing effects of Botox last three to four months depending on the dosage, how your body reacts, and the areas injected.*

Botox can relieve excessive underarm sweating for up to 14 months, and up to six months for the hands and feet.*

In cases of migraines and TMJ problems, Botox can relieve your symptoms permanently. Talk to the doctors about potential outcomes and need for retreatments for your specific condition.

How soon will I experience the results of Botox?

You see a reduction in wrinkles and lines within four to seven days following Botox injections. For migraines, it may take 10-14 days for you to get relief, and you may need additional injections after those two weeks. If you get Botox for hyperhidrosis, it takes between two and seven days for your excessive sweating to improve.
